Winter is around the corner and all we do at this time is to dig into our closets, suitcases and storage compartments to find winter outfits, shawls, sweaters, jackets, gloves and cozy scarfs that make you feel utterly warm at your transit between work and home or traveling to some snowy destination. Although this year’s winter seems like playing hide and seek, we can utilize this time to be prepared and not surprisingly get sick overnight.
The very first step you want to take is, take out all your winter outfits and lay them into the shade and let them breath some fresh air, they do not have to be under direct Sun for discoloration, though.
As we all know, we wear winter outfits hardly a few months in a year, some of us do not even buy new pairs every year, however, shuffle your closet, and align all your outfits which you will be wearing underneath the wintery garment. Wool and fur are those types of winter outfits that need extra care while washing, drying, wearing and storing. We have a few tips for you that will remind you not to miss a thing.
As you may know, wool is naturally non-allergenic. If wearing woolen items results in a rash, it may be due to the presence of wool wax known as lanolin. Sweaters and other woolen garments tend to lose their shape quite easily. It may shrink in size if not washed properly. Things to remember are:
- Read the label before washing. Some garments are dry clean only, do not wash them home
- Wash wool less frequently.
- Wash darks and lights separately.
- Use a gentle detergent.
- You can wash small spots or dirt, food spots separately before putting garments into the machine
- Turn the garment inside out before you wash it.
- Soak the garment in cold water before you put it in the machine.
- Always use a cold water cycle.
- Tumble dry only if it says on the label
- Iron clothes only if says in label, it must have ironing symbol
- Never make the error of hanging your woolen clothes in the wardrobe.
- For storage purposes, always fold them properly and keep them in a cabinet or boxes, or place them on a shelf that doesn’t come in contact with the walls.
- Always add mothballs and cedar chips while storing woolen clothes. This will kill and repel insects.
Many manufacturers recommend not to hand wash or machine wash woolen clothes. Instead, they insist on getting them dry cleaned. As you know, all clothing items have care instruction labels sewn in them. If the label clearly says “Dry Clean Only”, always take the clothes to a professional dry cleaner.
Now that you have made up your mind to go pro with your storing event, incorporate vibrant colors in your everyday look, match your favorite jewelry and handbag to look cautious fashion goer without making any efforts. Do not forget to eat healthy while keeping warm and walk in the Sun with sun screen lotion on.
